The relationship between neutral Spanish and the initiator of translation, ideologies and political correctness will be addressed, and then the myths and realities of this artificial variety of Spanish will be discussed with examples drawn from actual translations of series and films. Different terms proposed for the same concept in different categories (food, clothing, etc.) and existing standardization projects that may be useful for the translator will also be analyzed.
